Sr. Cost Accountant

Position Summary:

Our design and manufacturing firm needs a Sr. Cost Accountant to join our team. If you have worked in the manufacturing industry before and have advanced accounting skills, we’re interested in speaking with you. Our firm produces a wide variety of primary packaging products for the cosmetics and skin-care industries. This role will direct activities of product costing, product manufacturing analysis, and inventory valuation. The position provides recommendations to senior management in support of achievement of Company goals. In this position, you will report directly to the Global Controller and provide your services in end-of-month and end-of-year accounting resolution tasks. This position works independently and actively supports the achievement of the Company by performing a variety of higher-level accounting duties and responsibilities. Ensures financials accurately represent the transactions of the company and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform month end close activities for Cost Accounting and other areas of the GL
  • Prepare actual vs. plan (budget) analysis. Prepare various financial analysis related to manufacturing costs, inventory, and expense information for various customers as needed for decision making support
  • Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services provided, to determine effects on costs. Analyze actual production costs and prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
  • Develop and maintain standard costs of finished goods and production components in a worldwide ERP system
  • Ensure validity and accuracy of ERP through analysis, internal audit, and coordination with inventory control, production and work order processing
  • Lead and manage the excess and obsolete inventory review process
  • Assist in developing and documenting policies and procedures, including system requirements and internal controls
  • Maintain and improve processes and controls associated with manufacturing costs and inventory valuation
  • Prepare or review reconciliations of General Ledger accounts and investigate any unreconciled differences.
  • Prepare or review journal entries including proper General Ledger account, department, division, and project cost coding
  • Assists various other departments with accounting related issues (e.g. G/L coding questions)
  • Prepare or review monthly amortization schedules
  • Review fixed assets information/depreciation for the books
  • Prepares various accounting reports for divisions and upper management
  • Assists with ad hoc financial analysis, systems upgrade, process improvements, etc.
  • High level of technical competence with US General Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Draft financial statement footnotes
  • Perform accounting research and draft accounting memoranda

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Economics or Business
  • CPA plus.  Public accounting firm experience a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Accounting
  • A solid understanding of Finance and Accounting theories, practices, and terminologies
  • Hand on ERP experience, NetSuite systems preferred
  • Must have strong computer skills and the ability to learn in a fast-paced, high volume transaction environment
  • Must be able to create and/or maintain Excel spreadsheets using formulas
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision to meet deadlines
  • Must demonstrate the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and results oriented. Must be able to analyze a project/problem and define a better procedure/solution and drive execution
